We are a an Arch. Millwork fabricator/installer based in MD. We've been in business for 14yrs and recently begun to try and implement more sustainable development and production.
There are many in our field who regularly make "sustainable" claims on their products and techniques. Indeed the word "Green" has become pretty ubiquitous. I'd really be interested in a discussion of what this term means to others working in this field, or disagreements with our claims. |

A more recent concept for improving our electrical grid is to beam microwaves from Earth-orbiting satellites or the moon to directly when and where there is demand.
The power would be generated from solar energy captured on the lunar surface In this system, the receivers would be “broad, translucent tent-like structures that would receive microwaves and convert them to electricity”.
NASA said in 2000 that the technology was worth pursuing but it is still too soon to say if the technology will be cost-effective |

Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau launches green program
The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau has launched its “Green Hawaii” program featuring resorts and hotels that practice sustainability.
The program offers meeting planners and groups a list of environmentally responsible and energy-saving programs initiated by resort and hotel properties.
“Taking part in ‘green meetings’ has become very relevant in today’s meetings industry and is in line with the social responsibility that is driving the decision-making of corporations and associations nationally,” said Michael Murray, HVCB’s vice president of sales and marketing for corporate meetings and incentives, in a statement. “Our visitor industry does an admirable job with its eco-friendly business practices and we are letting planners know this to give them one more reason to book meetings in Hawaii.” |

CARSON CITY, Nev.—A "green jobs" initiative sought by Nevada Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford was endorsed Friday by a key legislative committee.
The Senate Energy, Infrastructure and Transportation Committee voted unanimously for SB152, which would use federal stimulus funds to train about 3,200 people, fund weatherization of about 6,500 homes and upgrade government buildings and schools to make them more efficient.
The intent of SB152, now going to the Senate Finance Committee, is to reduce greenhouse emissions, lower energy costs and create workers for the renewable energy industry. |

Xu Bing Studio is excited to announce the launch of http://www.forestproject.net the online portal for international renowned contemporary artist Xu Bing's 木, 林, 森 (mu, lin, sen) Project (2005-ongoing).
The project seeks to establish a symbiotic funding mechanism to help rebuild forest greenbelts around Mount Kenya—a UNESCO world heritage site—through the online auction and sale of artworks created by students from the region.

A Simple Way to Help
Hello all--
I recently interviewed a woman from Guatemala name Juana Cholotio, and after 90 minutes on the phone with her, was quite moved by how a fair trade company called the Mayan Connection has helped her to improve her life. I wrote a story about Juana that attempts to create the same sense of personal connection to her that I felt during the interview.
I have no commercial relationship with the Mayan Connection. I am doing this as a regular feature on my blog to promote fair trade businesses that are helping people. I want to give the company as much exposure as possible because, as explained in the story, the more business they get, the more women they help—and these people need help. Also, as the story explains, the business does a number of things to minimize their impact on the environment.
So I am asking people to simply read the story, and if you like it, select all of those little buttons below it, which will ask you make a comment. This recommends the story to readers from other websites that get far more traffic than mine, so the more those buttons are clicked, the more people will read about Juana and the Mayan Connection, and the more business they will get.
